Situated in the Bau district, not far from Tasik Biru, it takes approximately 1 ½ hours to reach this town by road from Kuching city. On both sides of the road leading to Serikin, one can see vast tracts of empty land alternating with swathes of green jungle, as well as the homes of people from the Iban and Bidayuh communities. A small roadside police post indicates the arrival in Serikin. Stalls in Serikin only operate during the weekends, on every Saturdays & Sundays. Most of the products sold here are from Indonesia. The main attraction is the ability to bargain freely. The goods are neatly arranged within and outside the stalls that stretch up to two kilometers. And one can hunt for different types of merchandise such as the handicrafts, mats, rottan products, clothing, various type of textiles like batik, kain songkek and kebaya fittings with unique embroidery, woodcarving, handmade potteries, weaving, and crystals, memorabilia made from glass and storage containers and other endless items.

It is renowned for the Bidayuh ladies who spread their jungle produce along the parking spaces. Walk around and view all the colorful and exotic vegetables arranged on the mats or canvas to attract buyers.

Continue to HOMEMADE KEK LAPIS. The Sarawak layer cake is a well-loved local delicacy that is laborious and intricate to make but so delicious to eat. These colourful cakes also make great gifts to friends. Kuching is a good destination to shop for souvenir such as woodcarvings, “Pua Kumbu” with native design, Pepper products and Sarawak pottery.
